I.s.m.architecten breaks with adjacent Flemish village row houses by opting for a pentagonal shape

In a Belgian village, close to Antwerp, i.s.m.architecten intentionally broke with the adjacent row houses by opting for a pentagonal shape with its sharp edge to the street. Maranello Houses

In Boqueirão, a neighborhood to the southwest of Curitiba with a predominantly residential network, there is a gated community composed of 14 houses, 4 of them facing the street, with direct access, and the others distributed along a central boulevard. The central spacing, between the two lines of houses, was decisive for the qualification of insolation, privacy, lighting and natural ventilation of the houses. Facing the circulation of the group, we have garages, patios and service areas. Inside the sublot, the social areas - living, dining and kitchen - are inte... More

Voids and split levels now accentuate its full height. The rear façade has been removed and clad with glass to a full height of 11 meters. Floor levels have been detached from the façade, creating a void that spans three levels an... More

Tammisalo is an old residential area with mostly single family homes and row houses built after 1950’s, but the history goes beyond that as the area was a part of 19th century mansion grounds. Being an island Tammisalo is surrounded by water and small forests. Nature is present everywhere as characteristic old and tall pine trees grow on many yards of many homes.   As the city grows and needs more space for it’s recidents, properties in the loosely built residential areas are being coped with denser land to building ratio which allowed building three apartments to a small lot instead of two. On the steep site, approach was for ho... More
