Located in the city center of Lisbon, Portugal, but only 50meters from the Tagus River the OKAH rooftop is inserted in an unexplored ancient port area. The challenge presented consisted in creating a rooftop that matched the LACS building essence – a modern and creative hub that combines an artistic soul and a cultural stronghold where forward-thinking creative businesses go to thrive.  In order to immerse in the landscape language MC-A designed, created and supervised the installation process of 16 modified maritime containers. When Whitney Architects decided to move their long-term headquarters to downtown Chicago, they required a space that exemplified both their key brand values, and the spatial solutions required of a bustling firm—an office that prioritized a design-forward, flexible, activity-based work environment. Real estate developer Carmel Partners awarded Surfacedesign creative control of the outside living spaces at its luxury apartment project Atelier, designed by architecture firm Solomon Cordwell Buenz.  Taking inspiration from the building’s proximity to the former Los Angeles Garment District, Surfacedesign’s overall approach was influenced by the Bauhaus textile patterns of Anni Albers.  Geometrical lines and shapes are repeated throughout the 33-story project’s two outdoor living spaces: pool/amenity deck and rooftop lounge.  Surfacedesign injected the textile inspiration into the composition, stitching together the hardscape with a rich landscape of native and Mediterranean plantings.   Atelier&rsq... For Carmeq, part of the Volkswagen Group, we have designed a workshop area and an adjoining lounge. Their employees wanted a flexible working environment which would boost their creative output and enable them to work in various constellations – a “creativity machine”.
