The Slender Apartment

Urban Soul Project as Architects

This is an apartment for a family of four, a work from home couple with two young children. Located on a prominent building in the seafront of Thessaloniki, the aim was to amplify exposure to the view. The family proximate needs were three bedrooms, one of them ensuite, storage space and a small working space for two, soundproof to the maximum.

The obvious approach was to open up towards the view and maximise the apartment's openness. The deep and thin layout vertical to the sea view challenged this intention. The plan is divided in two zones, a private and a common one. A linear spine runs through, connecting all parts of the apartment starting from the far back private walking closet, ending in the living room. Large windows and internal glazing around the office space completed this concept, allowing even to the innermost spaces an uninterrupted view of the horizon. Wall finishes such as walnut coverings create enclosures around the dining area that is the hearth of the apartment. The rest of palette is completed with light grey tiles, black steel and intensely veined black and white marble.
