Jardín y Pabellón Escénico Bosque de Chapultepec

CCA Centro de Colaboración Arquitectónica as Architects

The Chapultepec Forest constitutes the largest natural, social, biological and cultural heritage of Mexico City. Its vast extension and the diversity of activities, moments and spaces are a treasure. Intervening it is a task that requires the greatest care and a meticulous strategy. Although here we can find great wealth, the problem caused by the lack of connectivity between various fractions that are separated or disjointed from each other, which prevent the free flow of people and activities, is evident.

The lack of connectivity is a serious problem of the contemporary city, whose vocation is the integration of diversity in public spaces suitable for all. The first and second sections of the forest are sharply divided by the peripheral ring and the northern urban highway, creating a situation of double border: one on each side of the road.

There is a project for the construction of an elevated causeway that will join the two main sections of the forest, this causeway lands on the land where the garden and scenic pavilion will be built, giving this space a very particular condition; since it will receive the flow of pedestrians, cyclists and passersby who want to move from one section to another. This will be the most comfortable, efficient and agile way to carry out this journey, however, there are fractions that present the need for integration on a smaller scale. The garden and scenic pavilion project will also be an interconnection project, a network that articulates the various moments and experiences that take place here.

The project is a great opportunity to reintegrate this land into the cultural heritage of the city, providing it with an experimental pavilion for the performing arts, which completes and articulates the Centro Cultural del Bosque with the rest of the Bosque de Chapultepec, and at the same time, reorganizes the multimodal mobility of this point. Here the Auditorio Metro station, the Metrobús, urban buses, taxis, cyclists and pedestrians converge with the Paseo de la Reforma creating a strategic point of cohesion of great importance.

The Scenic Pavilion stands on the central axis of the land annexed to the Cultural del Bosque. The CCB of the National Institute of Fine Arts (INBA), of the National Council for Culture and the Arts (Conaculta), is a public artistic venue dedicated to the production, promotion, dissemination, enjoyment and reflection of the performing arts that hosts various forums for theater, dance and interdisciplinary expressions; schools, outdoor spaces, bookstore and cafeteria. With the accession of the Garden and Scenic Pavilion, this will be one of the most important complexes dedicated to the performing arts in the world, hence the importance of said pavilion being a reflection of our times, a symbol of technological capacity, of human creativity and of the ecological conscience of our nation.
