mecanismo as Design and management

Details, the protagonists in the last housing designed by mecanismo in San Sebastian

The majority of the house’s new furniture has been designed by the studio based in Madrid, directed by Pedro Rica and Marta Urtasun

The reformed house, which is located in the surroundings of the Ondarreta beach, in San Sebastián, had a very compartmentalized distribution that mecanismo has transformed to give it a greater luminosity and amplitude, giving rise to two differentiated zones in the house that harbor the different rooms of the dwelling. The main space of the house is composed of the living-dining room and the kitchen that, framed by a glass enclosure and in which the action in the area of the island is oriented to the outside, is completely integrated into this area of the house, giving it great prominence. In the back of the kitchen, the storage unit separates the kitchen area from the space dedicated to the laundry.

A panel of lacquered wood frame the entrance to the private area of the house, composed of rooms, bathrooms and an office, in which the elements and materials used shape a bright and warm atmosphere. In the design of the house, the use of stone and wood predominates. The study seeks to maintain the materials used in its more natural and primitive state, altering its shape, but not its color or texture. Its use throughout all the rooms spreads the atmosphere of the house.

The furniture, conceived by mecanismo as another architectural element with a functional purpose, has a fundamental role in housing and, therefore, a large part of it has been designed by the studio. Also, it should be noted the design of the breakfast table located in the living room, which is composed by the table and two chairs that are fully integrated into the structure, following the same line of the furniture located at the entrance of the house.

Urtasun notes that "from mecanismo we believe that space and light are fundamental elements that make up a home, so we try to reflect it in this reform." "In the design of furniture, both the functionality and the care for the material used and the details are fundamental.", Says Rica.
