Glampool

ICADA as Architects

The project is a renovation of the indoor pool at the Hilton Fukuoka Sea Hawk Hotel. We were commissioned to design "Glampool", where "glamping" and "night pool" are combined. For this interesting design condition, we proposed a space in which tents float.

The existing building is a product of the post-modern era. Its interior is based on an African theme; mimicking trees and so on. In this heavily decorated post-modern atmosphere, we decided to design lightweight elements; such as tents and textiles.

Tents are suspended from the ceiling, without any supports and tie-cables onto the floor. Counterweights are hung on the corners of the tents, therefore the gravity creates a complex curved surface. This floating tent covers the sofa and deck chairs, creating an intimate space for visitors.

In the entrance area, forest-inspired textile works covered the existing openings to create an atmosphere at night. The bar area, on the other hand, multi-colored films on the existing transparent glass creates a dusk-like atmosphere.
