UIUC Mechanical Engineering Building

Le Dôme winery blends 40-meter diameter timber dome into the rolling vineyards of Bordeaux

Owner of internationally renowned winehouse Le Dôme was immediately impressed by meeting Norman Foster who sketched the basic design of the building on the spot. The idea was clear from the start. A building that blends into its landscape and looks simultaneously inwards and outwards. Nigel Young The circular building is defined by a 40-meter diameter timber dome. This project is located in Sanxingtang Village, Gulao Water Town, Guangdong Province, the main function of the building is to provide a public space for afternoon tea or leisure gatherings. Aether Architects, Racol Creative   Gulao Water Town has its unique regional texture, the ponds and houses present a regular and free intertwined network landform,although this interpenetrating organic state is man-made, it looks like nature that has existed since ancient times. In the far north of the Bregenzerwald lies the small community of Sulzberg on the ridge of the same-named mountain. We built a house on a steep slope in the middle of a densely built-up residential area, which makes perfect use of the limited plot of land. Due to the extreme slope, we have divided the spaces into three floors. You enter the house on the street side on the top level via a wide footbridge. Here you will find the garage, a small guest room and the spacious, open living room. Designed with maximum transparency and openness, it is only structured by the free-standing kitchen unit. The cabin echoes our early construction experiences. Here, we are developing the shelter around a unique material: wood. The material allows integration and discretion in the landscape. The rhythm is mimetic. The composition is enough to shelter from the wind, looks, or rain. This simple gesture creates a limit, an invitation and a panorama. The trees and the shelter don’t touch each other but interact and create vertical and horizontal limits. Caption The gap in between the two walls invites the walker to enter the shelter. The project was launched with the ambitious objective of transforming a former coal-mining area into a landscape park, which is not only a model for the landscape design that is so essential in China, but also contains a building infrastructure that can be used for researching into and offering people access to and information about natural ecosystems. The island of the sun is located on Lake Titicaca, considered thehighest lake in the world. This island presents great elevation changes in which spaces with different environments and views originate in which the breadth of the lake can be observed. This place is considered a sanctuary dedicated to the God of the Sun. Throughout the island there are some trails that run from north to south through its places, ruins, viewpoints and towns that end at the lowest levels, bordering the shores of the lake. The intervention proposes an extension of these paths, a walk that enters the lake, as if it were the lake itself. T3 Atlanta

The 7-storey T3 West Midtown project in Atlanta, at 205,000 sqft timber area, is one of the largest mass timber buildings in the US. T3 West Midtown is the second T3 office building ("timber, transit, technology") for the developer Hines. The gravity system of the 6-storey timber superstructure is comprised of DLT (dowel-laminated timber) floor and roof panels over a Glulam post and beam substructure. ENJOY - Wood office building in Paris 17e

Straddling a railway line in Paris’s Clichy-Batignolles quarter, the site demanded the lightest-weight construction method possible. This is where the wood came into its own. Above Green Office® ENJOY’s baseplate rises a classic beam-and-post structure of glued spruce and pine laminate, its floors made of cross-laminated pine. As for the façades, they are constructed using a solid timber frame with sterling board (OSB) and mineral wool, and finished with aluminium cassettes. Acting as a natural carbon store, the structure’s 2,700m³ of Scandinavian and Austrian timber hold 520 tonnes of CO2, while the construction process expended 2,900 fewer tonnes of CO2 than a conventional building project.
