Villa Stardust

New Future for an Outdated Office: MVRDV Completes Villa StardustMVRDV has completed Villa Stardust, transforming a former commercial building into a private home. Inspired by a Moroccan riad, the interior living spaces of the villa are oriented around a central patio, which functions as an extra outdoor chamber. The used materials and colour palette give the dwelling a Mediterranean look and feel. As a retrofit building, Villa Stardust is a highly sustainable project following circular economy principles.   As a former commercial building with a limited privacy due to neighbouring structures, the key strategy in this transformation is the insertion of a vibrant central garden patio. This draws its inspiration from the Moroccan riad... En savoir plus

Birch & Clay Refugio

This house is an oasis in the city; a flat renovation that uses natural materials to complement the open spaces of the family home. The interior design shines through the details of the textures and furniture.   The client first approached us because they wanted to open up the existing spaces of the house in order to create an atmosphere of freshness. In the end, the project developed into an intimate and personal space that combines design features from the Spanish background of the client. One of the most important design features is the maximisation of the amount of storage in the house. It has been achieved through the use of built-in joinery, allowing the client to really take advantage of their home and enjoy its new design in... En savoir plus

Cards Against Humanity’s Chicago Office

The irreverent card game Cards Against Humanity encourages players to constantly probe the boundaries of offensiveness. The self-proclaimed “party game for horrible people” has grown to become the best-selling game on Amazon.com, and earns that spot because - as it turns out - when you’re with friends, being bad is good.  Nicholas James Photography The same social paradigm that makes the game so fun to play is also what drives the games’ eight founders in their professional endeavors. The group sees social connections and the cross-pollination of ideas as a crucial aspect of a creative culture. They envision the work-share office typology as an opportunity to bring together graphic designers, artists, phot... En savoir plus

Casa In Via De’ Bardi - Due

Nomad House

Nomad House is a contemporary residence in Dubai that blends Canadian and Moroccan tribal influences into a contemporary family space.   The villa is located in a prominent older residential area of Dubai and had been purchased as a family home by the new owners, who saw great potential in the three-bedroom property. We were entrusted to design a contemporary interior with a complete renovation taking the structure down to shell and core that would resonate with the Canadian and Moroccan homeowners and epitomize their design sensibilities whilst creating a space that was comfortable and livable. Many authentic and cherished artifacts had been acquired over the years and needed to be incorporated into the space, such as ornamental lig... En savoir plus

Courtyard House

Courtyard House commenced life in 1885 as a generously proportioned Italianate terrace in the Toxteth Estate of Glebe. During the interwar period, like many dwellings in Glebe, it underwent significant unsympathetic alteration into a boarding house.   In reconfiguring it back into a single dwelling, the ambition was to create a courtyard house that afforded much better amenity than the typical terrace typology.   Organised around a central sunny north-east facing courtyard, conceptually based on the Riad – a traditional Moroccan house with an interior shady cool garden court – all interior spaces seamlessly interface with the courtyard. The green courtyard is the physical and conceptual heart of the dwelling. By co... En savoir plus

Momenttum Exhibition

Yahvi Residence

The Yahvi Residence is located in Coimbatore amidst three built forms. The design emphasis was on open spaces to facilitate abundant lighting and proper ventilation. This is achieved through a  central courtyard and skylight that forms the core of the house. The courtyard is the beating heart of the house in bringing the family together, connecting the various rooms, and serves as the perfect backdrop for family celebrations and events. Handmade Moroccan tiles accentuate the vertical wall of the courtyard, in stark contrast with the textural ochre.  The planning ensures that all rooms in the house from the bedrooms to common areas, such as the living and dining, connect to a semi-open/open space. The building's elevation has a str... En savoir plus

An Eclectic Victorian Home Refurbishment

The design focus for this North London Victorian terrace home design project was the refurbishment and reconfiguration of the ground floor together with additional space of a new side-return.   Orienting and organising the interior architecture to maximise sunlight during the course of the day was one of our primary challenges solved.   While the front of the house faces south-southeast with wonderful direct morning light, the rear garden faces northwest, consequently less light for most of the day.   At the encouragement and inspiration of our famous client, we made the somewhat counter-intuitive decision of relocating the kitchen to the smallest room at the back of the terrace house, rather than in the larger room ex...
