Pack your bags, today we are heading out to the Netherlands! The Villa Aan De Vect is a beautiful modern home designed by the architectural firm HOGO from Helmon, in the Netherlands. The home, inside and out, incorporates the clean lines and neutral tones that we’ve come to expect from modern design. However, the designers were able to sprinkle in a few traditional elements such as muted still-life paintings, representational sculpture, and a reclaimed wood table that could hold the dinner conversation all on its own. The Villa Aan De Vect transitions between traditional and modern style with an elegant ease — both time periods resting comfortably on the strong shoulders of great design.Read the full story on the Eu... This installation took place in northern California and into the burgeoning world of modern prefab architecture.   “The word prefab is often used to describe any type of home that is made from easy-to-assemble building parts that were manufactured off-site.” (architecture.about.com)However, what makes modern prefab architecture so intriguing to architects, city planners and early adopters is its attention to precision and design. Prefabrication allows for repeatability, predictability (a good thing when faced with the inherent unpredictable nature of home building) and a limitation of waste. In theory, the resources saved by mitigating waste can then be reinvested in higher quality materials.Read the whole... Sky Adler is the Senior Director of Architecture and Design for Kona Grill, a fine dining restaurant specializing in sushi and an array of handmade cocktails. Sky cut his teeth in design while living in LA and working in the film industry as a production designer for over a decade.One of the first things I noticed when I walked into the new Kona Grill in Minnetonka, MN was how theatrical the whole experience was. A giant blue LED bubble wall greets you for your red-carpet entrance. Over by the bar, the sushi chef is cutting sashimi on his illuminated stage. Finally, as you turn the corner, you are treated to an Element4 eight-foot long see-through gas fireplace which brings drama and warmth to the ent... Melanie Williams: Bespoke Interiors is a London-based architecture and interior design consultancy that mainly works in local high end residential projects. They saw an image of this Minneapolis loft on Houzz, and like us, wanted to know more about this unique industrial design. Theis and Khan is a London-based architecture group that designs everything from churches to shops, art galleries to health centers, offices to housing developments and more. One of their recent works was an expansive mixed-use building: 3 floors of commercial space with 4 residential units above. As it turns out, the exacting clients for this particular space were themselves. This project, known as Bateman’s Row, accommodates Theis and Khan’s office space, an art gallery and their family home in the units above. Following their years of service, they spent the next eight months traveling. With time spent in Peru, Brazil, and all throughout South America, they eventually made their way over to the States.
