Stacked and rotated volumes define Diller Scofidio + Renfro’s latest building at the University of Chicago

On the campus of the University of Chicago, the David Rubenstein Forum is a new facility for collaboration, discourse, and intellectual exchange. Designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro, the 97,000 square foot building comprises a two-storey base and a slender, eight-storey tower that accommodates a 285-seat auditorium, and multipurpose meeting spaces for workshops, symposia, and lectures, among other activities.  Brett Beyer The building is organized as a stack of what the architects describe as ‘neighbourhoods’ with meeting and communal spaces that provide diverse environments. Morphosis wraps Casablanca Finance City tower in futuristic brise-soleil

Morphosis wraps the Casablanca Finance City tower with a brise-soleil that protects the building against the harsh Moroccan sun while exploiting the external elements to regulate natural light, air and temperatures internally. Canadian countryside home demonstrates the merits of prefabrication

Situated in the Canadian countryside, this modular home is composed of five prefabricated custom modules that are assembled before being delivered to site. Manufactured precisely off the plans of Figurr Architect's Collective, insulation, windows and flooring were all assembled before transport to site. Due to the speed of assembly, prefabrication allowed for construction to begin in the late summer as indoor construction could continue over the winter season.   Credit: David Boyer With an extremely low environmental footprint, sustainable and local materials were specified. Lotte World Tower

This 555-meter monument to Seoul’s skyline reaches heights never before seen in Korea and joins the ranks of the world’s top ten tallest buildings. Elegance of form was one of the prime objectives, following Lotte's desire to bestow a beautiful monument to the capital city skyline. The sleek tapered form of the 123-story tower stands out from the city's rocky, mountainous topography, and is organized around a stacked mixed-use program, comprising retail, office, officetel, and a 7-star luxury hotel. Founded in 1903, The Commonwealth Club provides national audiences with impartial programs on politics, economics, culture and the environment featuring world-renowned speakers with weekly national broadcasts in the longest running U.S. radio program. SGA converted a former Verizon warehouse into Linx, a 185,000 square foot LEED Gold certified campus for science and technology companies. The façade, coined “fun industrial,” features hanging screens, custom still frames in mesh, vertical fins, corrugated metal, and a color-changing material called Alucobond Spectra.
