Flinders Residence

Lavishly endowed with glowing Australian timber and limestone, this home has a robust but luxe materials palette "from the earth", says Abe McCarthy of Abe McCarthy Architects. Abe collaborated with interior designer Alice Villella of AV-ID, custom builders Gstruct Group and landscaper Barber Design to establish this warm, inviting family home embedded in open pastures on the Mornington Peninsula.WHAT WAS THE CLIENT’S BRIEF?Abe McCarthy: We had worked with our client, a couple with a growing family, on two prior residential renovations. The essence of the idea of a dream home for them, a new build on the Flinders site, was conceived some years ago. Work began on an initial concept in 2013 to a brief centred on the creation of a family... En savoir plus

Annandale House

'Baldwin & Bagnall explore light and scale in the contemporary refresh of a renovated terrace in Sydney’s inner-western suburb of Annandale. Heath Baldwin & Hayden Bagnall are the names behind Baldwin & Bagnall, a Sydney-based multi-disciplinary design practice specialising in bespoke interiors. They were the ideal candidates for taking on the Annandale House; last renovated in the 1980s, lacking in access to natural light and an adequate floorplan. Approached by the client with a clear vision for a modern and comfortable interior, Baldwin & Bagnall needed to demolish the majority of the home and start from scratch. A tedious reshuffle to the home’s layout gave Baldwin & Bagnall the opportunity... En savoir plus

Framed around an incredible courtyard space, this U-shaped home enables a real sense of connectedness, whilst also offering a whole lot of space for the kids to play and the parents to relax. With interiors by Lisa Buxton Interiors, each room beautifully considers the details from the buildings past, such as the use of the classic Gillespie brass. We love the way this beautiful material palette pairs so flawlessly wi... En savoir plus

Adela Apartments

The project came about with the development of a large residential block close to the Elwood foreshore and Port Philip Bay. The brief simply requested a spacious apartment product that was cutting edge and contemporary, but subtle both inside and out. The concept of a large apartment resulted in six single level dwellings, each with the proportions of a small house. The apartments are low maintenance, functionally adaptable to appeal to a range of potential residents, and highly sustainable. Externally, rather than go for a standard “stacked wedding cake” form, the building was set back significantly from the adjoining properties on the lower levels. This allowed the main volume of the building to have vertical sides and reduce... En savoir plus

Horiuchi Fruit Farm Osaka Cafe

A second shop was planned after the one in Nara, the home of “HORIUCHI FRUIT FARM,(堀内果実園)” in Grand Front Osaka, a commercial facility in the redevelopment area of Osaka Station North. Here, we wanted to express in the space the fact that the products are delivered from the farm to the city and the uniqueness of the domestically made dried fruits products. It is said that when the Pyramid was being built, the large stones were placed onto the logs and were rolled across. The logs are the primitive form of the wheels, and by adopting them, we would like to use it as a starting point to convey the meaning of “carrying” and the place where the products come from. The wheels made from Yoshino cedar trees from Nara are s... En savoir plus

Ori Clubhouse / Social House

Kimchee Pancras Square

We were required to reconstruct by adding new identity, yet leaving the impression of the existing restaurant as it is. By using Korean traditional grid patterns and vertical grids as motif, we aimed to make a clear and sophisticated atmosphere.  Though this is Interior Design, being conscious of the Architecture structures and considering the details enable to evoke the customers’ feelings to visit here. One of our challenges was to make a characteristic difference in the space from the Basement Floor to the Ground Floor. As you proceed from the entrance to the aboveground floor’s inner room and to the Basement Floor, customers will feel more sense of privacy. We have used the same motif grids, nevertheless, by changing... En savoir plus
