Toned-down country home in Zhukovka

Architect Petr Yushin’s take on nature resulted in an organic, surprisingly ‘light’ ambiance where deep, darker colours and rough materials seem to dance on the floor, making it seem to gain an inward-looking sort of natural elegance. House in Dumbrava Vlasiei

The house in Dumbrava Vlăsiei stands between the forest and the park like a threshold: a simple volume placed perpendicularly to the length of the site, creating a front yard towards the south and the park and a backyard towards the north and the forest. Laurian Ghinitoiu Occupying almost the entire width of the plot and as little as possible from its length, the house orients its two long sides towards the two privileged views of the natural landscape. Laurian Ghinitoiu The house thus functions as a narrow, permeable limit between the two courtyards, allowing daylight to penetrate all across its width. The volume steps back from the street, leaving way to a future patch of garden with birch trees, magnolias and lilacs. Lauri... En savoir plus

House D in Dornbirn

Stüben, a steep mountain plot above Dornbirn, offers views over the Vorarlberg Rhine Valley, the alpine landscape from the First to the Swiss mountains and in the northwest over Lake Constance. The house captures the panorama with its largely glazed living area on the top floor, and in its formal language, it creates references to the architecture of traditional farmhouses. Bruno Klomfar Bruno Klomfar The found topography largely determines the concept of the house. A narrow path leads between old pear trees to the entrance on the lower level. The basement and the sleeping floor above disappear mostly in the terrain. The two stories are solidly constructed and show themselves as exposed concrete plinth. The distinctive canti... Lake House

The house on the lake refers to the local boat and fishing houses and follows the tradition of rural construction by the water. Lightness, a low, wide roof structure and a strong emphasis on the horizontal determine the design. The timber construction, predominantly from local woods, is elevated to protect it from flood. The wooden porch surrounding the house widens to a terrace at the lakeside, completely covered by the steep saddleback roof. The vertical timber formwork of the facades is untreated, with wide glazing allowing generous views into the surroundings. House H, Langenzersdorf

On the eastern edge of an extremely narrow site, this two story building is settled between two single-family houses. Road side, the garage with storage room slides into the slope forming a significant, typical boundary. A lateral concrete staircase leads into a narrow path that develops the property and leads to the house. Caption Caption The basement partly sticks out of the slope, giving way to the weatherproof main entrance, guest and children’s rooms and accomodating sanitary facilities as well as cellar and building services room. A staircase leads to the spacious, light-flooded living-dining-cooking area on the first floor. From the south-facing, largely covered terrace you can reach the garden in the upper part of t... House P in Allgäu

On the edge of a densely built residential area in the Allgäu hills, we created a well-conceived wooden house for a variety of uses. The adjacent popular recreation and landscape conservation area prompted us to incorporate the surrounding nature into the design of the house. The new building follows the proportions of the desolate existing building from the 1960s. The staggered storey set back from the street communicates with the slope, whose original steepness we have restored. The restrained, horizontally structured architecture with a façade made of local wood blends harmoniously into the natural surroundings. Floor-to-ceiling glazing, visual axes and open living spaces that offer numerous views stage nature and bring it in... En savoir plus

Beaches House

Toronto’s Beaches neighbourhood presents a peculiar condition within the city.  Vast, sandy beach stretches out along the northern shore of Lake Ontario, transporting visitors away from the buzz of the city.  Just one block north, Queen Street, lined with busy shops and restaurants, runs parallel to the water, extending all the way to downtown.  To experience the area is to seamlessly transition between a natural and calm landscape, and an urban and lively atmosphere. “Beaches House” is a split-level residence located in the middle of these two environments, with Kew Beach to the south, and Queen Street to the north. Responsible for the interior design, our goal was to create a home which would reflect thi... En savoir plus
