Pilbhit House

Haridwar is the city known for the strong influences of the deity Shiva, further enhanced by the presence of the river Ganga. Pilibhit House, a mesmerizing hospitality project by Designers Group in Haridwar,  seeks to enthrall everyone who enters the town searching for liberation (Moksha). The cultural and religious significance of Haridwar played a considerable part in the contemporary design grammar of the Pilibhit House Hotel. This vintage property, situated on the banks of the river Ganga, was owned by the descendants of the royal family of Pilibhit. Hence, it seemed regal even before it was interacted with. The original structure also possessed enigmatic grandeur and had a touch of opulence to it. Caption The project is a ka... En savoir plus

A twisted prismatic approach of a boutique hotel

The Ampia Vista retreat is located on a steep longtitudinal plot at the southern part of Meganisi island offering breathtaking views of the Ionian Sea. Additional to the 34 double rooms, 8 triple rooms and 6 luxurious suites, the complex includes high standard food and beverage facilities as well as a wellness  center.    The name derives from the Italian meaning of the phrase “ample view”, which is the key element of the hotel. A prerequisite for the design team was that all rooms and facilities have unique unhindered views of the mesmerizing blue of the nearby bay.    As Greek villages are anchored on mountainsides and have their public square located at the center, the retreat is deployed on a sta... Spring Tower

This project was a design study to explore the design language and massing for a proposed new residential tower in the Historic Core of downtown Los Angeles.  Clad in shades of blue glass, the project sought to exploit the materiality of glass in novel ways by deploying it to maximize its sense of mass and density.  Building from a deep, dark, heavily textured base, the project evolves as it rises to culminate in light blue glass where the building meets the sky, along the way transitioning from a language of dense mass to one of light planarity, enabling the insertion of recessed outdoor balconies within the upper levels. Caption Caption The massing angles and jogs as the building rises, creating relationships that al... Mini Cuppa - SOHO

hcreates recently opened a new café for Mini Cuppa in the Sky Soho development in Hongqiao, Shanghai.  The client wanted a fun and cozy space to attract the young professionals in the surrounding office towers. When hcreates first started to learn about Mini Cuppa, they immediately noticed their range of interesting, creative drinks and snacks that were very eye-catching. Design Director Hannah Churchill said the creative process was ignited by the products. “We kept going back to this one bubble-tea image.  It was kind of sculptural. We couldn’t help but let that influence the design aesthetic for the space” hcreates hcreates hcreates designed a custom floor for the project, the terrazzo... En savoir plus

Mochi Director's Cut

After almost a decade of satisfying our cravings for authentic Japanese cuisine, Mochi, a culinary institution in Vienna, has taken a short renovation break. BURO KLK has been commissioned not only for the initial concept in 2012 but also for the current redesign of the restaurant. David Schreyer David Schreyer The striking brand identity is based on three strong pillars: quality, tradition and bold aesthetics. Mochi “Director’s Cut” (as we call it in-house) is a natural evolution of a successful concept aimed toward strengthening its identity. The brief was to maintain the original, vivid character of the place while optimizing the spatial situation with regard to current needs. David Sch... En savoir plus

Situated in a 1950s-era, single-story building on Main Street in downtown Edmonds, Leftcraft is casual and approachable, yet distinct from local restaurant and bar establishments. Rich materiality and an embrace of time-worn patina set the venue apart from other establishments in town. The latest in a series of restaurants developed by the same owner, Leftcraft evolves the exploration of themes established in the most recent iteration. Here, the design explores and plays with themes of materiality, color, and texture and the contrast between new and old.   The infill building, modified at various times during its existence, features concrete walls and floors and a tongue-and-groove Douglas fir ceiling, all of which were cleaned and le... Market House

New to Iowa City’s historic Northside District, Market House is a mixed-use gathering place located at the corner of North Linn and Market streets. According to Nick Lindsley of Neumann Monson Architects, “The neighborhood, which is steeped in familiarity and a long history, has many buildings primarily clad in brick. Our strategy consisted of creating a five-story building, that blended in with these surrounding brick buildings, but also had a visual and textural identity of its own. At first, we thought about using terra cotta on the building’s façade to complement brick, which we had originally chosen.” Co-owner and developer of Market House, Ross Nusser added, “There’s much history here on the... Rougemarin Doma

During last spring’s quarantine when all the restaurants were closed, we started talking with the team at Rougemarin about the future of the catering industry, and about the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on people’s habit of going out to restaurants in general. Prolonged lockdowns have made cooking popular again, and people have started approaching home-cooked meals quite seriously. Why leave professional cooking only to restaurant chefs when with a little help you can become a chef yourself in your own kitchen? We have thus come up with the concept of Rougemarin Doma (Rougemarin at Home), a store that is based on quality ingredients at different stages of meal processing and preparation. From completely raw foods such as f... En savoir plus
