Vltava Philharmonic Hall

We envision creating the next generation cultural meeting point where the Philharmonic Hall and urban life merge into one. The starting point for our proposal is creating a high-quality public place to make a natural meeting point for both music lovers and the broad public. Building upon a human-centered and urban approach, we start molding the Philharmonic Hall creating a building with the highest ambition of public space and cultural experience, establishing a unique setting for 24/7 urban life and music along the Vltava.  Caption Urban Catalyst The mere size of the plot is so big, our proposal is as much urban development as it’s a building. We see the plot as a catalyst in the urban transformation of Bubny and Hole&sca... En savoir plus

OMA inverts theater typology by plugging three cantilevered theaters into a central cube

Rem Koolhaas and David Gianotten see the Taipei Performing Arts Center as close as they have ever been to defining a new type of architecture. An attempt to explore, if architecture abandons its humanistic assumptions, an architecture where technology comes first. Another way of approaching architecture which the architect thinks will be more characteristic of the 21st century. © OMA by Chris Stowers The typical concert building has a centrally placed auditorium and side halls that are not interconnected. OMA inverted this typology by placing the technical spaces in a central tower and plugging in three cantilevered auditoria. A theatrical machinery that not only serves one auditorium, but can be transformed into an extended inte... En savoir plus

Cavatina Concert Hall

The building is contemplated to have a 500-seat indoor concert hall, a 600-seat outdoor ampitheater, an art exhibit space, community meeting rooms and classrooms for both music and art. The genesis of the Concert Hall design is influenced by historical, cultural, environmental and vernacular concepts. Salish and Suquamish Tribal art were significant inspiration for the fluid and organic shape of the building. Crescents, trigons, ovals and other shapes that have been used in wood carving and stylized Salish art are embodied within the architecture of the building. Caption Caption Caption The concept of clarity and contrast were also a major driving force in the design. The local vernacular architecture, the Suquamish Tribe wo... En savoir plus

Maag Concert Hall, Zurich

The Tonhalle Orchester Zurich was founded in 1868 and enjoys worldwide recognition. While its permanent home is being renovated, the provisional concert hall was designed to satisfy the orchestra’s and the public’s discerning artistic demands. The former Maag industrial hall, where the Maag brothers’ machine factory produced gearboxes, pumps and cogs until the 1990s, was transformed into a concert hall with excellent sound quality within a very short period. In addition to the construction of cloakrooms, a foyer and a concert hall, the Maag Building K, which is classified as a building worthy of special protection by the preservation authorities, was also equipped with recording rooms, administrative offices, break rooms a... Festspielhaus, Erl

Christine Chapel

The Chapel is not only a symbolic building of Yeonsei University but also a place to be inspired by the Christian spirit represented by the missionary Underwood who arrived in the country 136 years ago. The building has been praised for embodying the spiritual value of aesthetics that the university pursues. The design of Christine Chapel is focused on adjusting balance while meeting the needs of its primary purpose as a chapel and to be served as a multi-purpose hall. In addition, the design takes into consideration the relation between environment, space, and human in order to harmonize them as a whole. These aspects of the design that the designer has value can be found from the use of material. Oppose to the heaviness of hardwood and s... En savoir plus
