Bamboo Cat Shelter

Huerto Roma Verde is an outdoor community center located in the heart of Mexico City.  It is home to various nonprofit and local organizations hosting weekly events and activities.  One of the organizations here is a group of seniors who are in charge of rescuing stray cats.  To help create a permanent place dedicated to the care of these animals a plan was created to upgrade the existing shelter to accommodate beds and food storage for about 20-30 kittens.  Only materials found at the center were used for this project which included Tetra Pak panels, recycled bamboo poles, and salvaged wood pieces.  The participants for the construction of this project were local volunteers and architecture students. A fog inspired ring of canopies connects cultural center by Sou Fujimoto Architects to terraced landscape

Sou Fujimoto Architects were inspired by the site’s village landscape of terraced fields draped in fog. The architects proposed a floating lightweight canopy that hugs the landscape like a cloud. Shanghai Fengyuzhu The canopy starts from the main buildings and cascades downwards the terraced landscape to connect with the river. According to Sou Fujimoto Architects, the canopy ring provides a sense of continuity and allows the building to blend with its natural surroundings. Shanghai Fengyuzhu The canopy is made out of naturally woven lightweight materials and provides a soft boundary for the cultural center. The volume that punctures the canopy breaks with the village morphology and signals a public function. Shanghai F... En savoir plus

Tani Malandi High School, Mayotte

Building a school in Mayotte means dealing with many issues on several levels in a very different way than here in Europe – educationally, but also socio-economically and ecologically. The small Comorian island of Mayotte, north of Madagascar, belongs to France and is part of the EU. Of the approximately 180,000 inhabitants, more than half are younger than 20. In view of the strong population growth and the resulting increase in the number of pupils, the outdated temporary multi-purpose secondary school needs to be replaced with new buildings. The architecture should meet the requirements and goals of a state school, but also consider the specific needs of young Mahorans. The adolescents and young adults need a framework that promotes... Time Light

The land shows the accumulative soil erosion of many years, and the underground water trace evokes the image life and presents the history and memories of the past. In the piece, “Time Light,” the artist team utilized bamboo, wood, and iron to make the shape of a seed rising from the ground overlapped with a light trace. The path which is transformed from the sprouting stem invites viewers to enter this space which is illuminated by the light trace. In the space where the path moves, time travel and traces are extracted. The shape reflects waves on the ground via the lighting shadows of overlapping and colliding natural materials, symbolizing life on the land. En savoir plus

The Light in Between

The two large curved surfaces float above the water in dynamic tension with each other and the water below. It appears as some sort of gateway or portal, inviting us to enter at one end and squeeze through to the other side perhaps to another place in time. The curves embrace and sky and the earth. They catch the breeze and reflect the light. They tell us of the passing of time and whisper the old songs of the Harbor. En savoir plus

Unrelated

In our perceivable space, myriads of border-crossing actions have been taken in a creeping and constant manner. The team created Unrelated, a translucent visual installation, with bamboo, timber, iron, steel wire and LED lights, and then installed it on the surface of the water. The vertical bamboo slices interweave the real and the virtual in this space and produce a riveting intersection of shadow and light in the night breeze. As far as the team is concerned, life per se is essentially featured by a concatenation of encounters, seemingly unintentional yet in fact causally related. Those seemingly unrelated happenings could be the results of predestined appointments. En savoir plus

Fish Trap House V

The Fish Trap is an ancient vessel. In the past, it served as a tool for catching fish. Then, as it was no longer used, it became a symbol that bears lost culture in museums and literature. In this piece, we tried to take this vessel and reproduce it with different dimensions and appearances. The artist FENG focused on the memories of the handicraft and the unique spatial experience that is perceived with the body to create a one-of-a-kind Fish Trap House so the vessel has a chance to hold all kinds of possibilities and imagination. The Fish Trap House created by the artist is not used for trapping fish. Instead, it captures the attention of people, luring them in as if they are fish in the water, swimming into the alluring landscape of Yu... En savoir plus
