WESLEY QUARTER LANEWAY AND PUBLIC REALM

Hassell en tant que Architectes.

Wesley Lanes is an upgrade to the public spaces surrounding the historic Wesley Church fronting the vibrant fashion centre of the city. The spaces are dynamic in design and materiality. They focus on pedestrian comfort and assist in elevating the Wesley Centre as a cultural and fashion icon of Perth. Our dedicated team of landscape architects developed a minimal, monochromatic palette of natural stone (in this case, charcoal granite and white sandstone) in order to create a ground plane which worked in harmony with both the modern retail and heritage architectural styles. A narrative winds its way through the lane via pavers with resin-filled etched text that tell visitors and patrons of the events and people that have shaped the history of the site. The overhanging stone elements of the raised podium and tree plinth are under-lit as part of a lighting strategy developed to illuminate the architectural features of the church and surrounding spaces.
