The Art of Indulging

REVERIA en tant que Architectes.

Reveria Studio designs the new interiors of Villa della Quercia and the terraces of L ̃ARIA restaurant in the Mandarin Oriental, Lake Como

An immersive and fully satisfying place, the one where the only resort of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group is located, on the shores of Lake Como. A place where the experience - of nature, landscapes, colours, lights, sounds - dictates expressive codes that cannot go unnoticed. It was by studying and giving substance to these natural languages that Reveria, a design studio based in Milan, completed the total renovation of the interiors of Villa della Quercia, one of the resort's major villas, and of the outdoor area of L ̃ARIA restaurant.

Interior Design Concept by REVERIA
With the skill of those who want to interpret and enhance the laws of the territory and transform constraints into distinctive points, the interior design is able to accompany with fluidity what one lives outside.

The reflections of the lake water are replicated thanks to a detailed study of light, systems and forms of lighting.

Natural colours here become a palette of spaces, materials and fabrics. The enjoyment and charm of the place resonate in the atmosphere of the rooms, in the absolute attention to details, in the choice of each object that makes up the whole environment.

Alongside the principles of natural beauty, it is the Italian style that guides the design: elegance, clean shapes, material consistency, handcrafted design objects. Italian is, above all, the foresight to make the rooms welcoming and comfortable, to make you feel the protagonist of a scene from a Fellini film, and, at the same time, guest in a friend's house. In fact, it is no coincidence that the floors have been replaced with a typical oak parquet that plays with the classic bindello, a distinctive pattern of Italian villas, or the spaces reserved for the wardrobe are comparable to a real theatrical scenography.

It is from a constraint that one of the most characterizing ideas of the project was shaped: the long existing walls (over 12 meters), potentially monotonous, have been transformed into internal landscapes thanks to a metal structure capable of giving rhythm and vigour to the light, and, at the same time, contain works of art, mirrors, decorative elements and wallpaper made with the traditional silk of Como.

The pleasure of crossing these spaces contributes to the sense of wonder that you feel when you reach the terrace, with its amazing lake view.

The attention to detail and the all-round experience is confirmed by art and culture: each work of art is the result of the collaboration with "The Pool NYC", an art gallery based in Milan. Furthermore, artists have specifically conceived and created their works for this interior project after having being invited to personally experience Lake Como and the resort itself.

Each book has been carefully selected by Rizzoli Bookstore from New York, to make available, to guests, publications on Italian excellence and travel. Handcrafted objects in marble, glass, ceramic, unique pieces made in collaboration with Italian artisans, complete the experience to be in a unique space, which is more home than hotel.

The sense of rhythm and the ability to masterfully break a visual ecosystem is given by desired and studied chromatic contrasts: very dark and deep shades interact with neutral and calm tones.

Dialogues that we also find in the large bathrooms, conceived as spaces dedicated to well-being and self-care. Here the lake becomes a powerful source of inspiration: its fluid movements, the sense of peace and quiet, its refractions of light, have been taken up in spatial and emotional terms.

Calm, natural, tone-on-tone colours are punctuated by accents of dark wood and burnished brass. Local marbles, such as Cipollino, “onion-stone”, and Emperador Light, become protagonists in their sartorial and contemporary use, without frills, with all their material strength.

In a contemporary guise some typical details of Italian historic villas have also been revisited, such as the legs of washbasins, the drawer handles and other metal details, made to a burnished brass design.

To complete the communicative language, the reference to the East: some decorative details, textiles and objects from flea markets, are deliberately inserted to create a bridge between the origins of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group and the Italian artisan tradition.
