Corlaer 2 College Nijkerk

Architectenweb Magazine en tant que Médias.

Corlaer 2 is a secondary school (HAVO and VWO) in Nijkerk. The building program required a modern concept. Only a small part of the learning domain consists of traditional classrooms. The bigger part mainly consists of a series of study areas for individual education. The program is based on growth, and the central facilities, like the auditorium, drawing, music and science departments, already take into account up to 800 students.

The spatial concept of the school is based on split level floor areas that blend into each other through stairs and bridges. The result is an impressive spatial spectacle in the heart of the building. In the so called ‘knowlegde canyon’ the idea of an office garden frames the basis for a renewed concept on substantive learning. Group workspaces are linked to individual and public silence rooms, which are intersected by relaxation islands. The building offers both introvert and extrovert places for students, irrespective of their individual learning differences.
