New York Law School

BKSK Architects en tant que Architectes.

BKSK partnered with Washington, DC-based SmithGroup to complete the first of a two-phased project that comprises 200,000 sf of new construction and 150,000 sf of renovations that results in a highly functional complex and an attractive new physical identity for New York Law School right in the urban heart of New York City.

Our design approach emphasized the principles of clarity and visibility. The new wing contains classrooms, offices for faculty, student spaces, and the law library, organized by a generous lounge/circulation space that runs along a 5-level, 200-foot glass façade. This transparent envelope displays a high degree of activity well into the evening, transforming the impression of the School “inside-out.”

At the heart of the new facility is the School’s Mendik Law Library, a 54,000 s.f./500,000+ volume center for research and learning. The Library boasts advanced information technology tools that augment the School’s highly-regarded book and letter collection. Other resources include computer labs, study lounges, library administration offices, reference sections, and technical service rooms, all of which help the library achieve its dual mission to 1) collect, organize and make available legal resources in every available format, and 2) aid students and faculty in their research and learning endeavors.
