New Terminal Airport Malaga

Malaga airport is located in an earthquake-endangered region between the Mediterranean and Sierra Nevada and is the main airport for tourist destinations on the Costa del Sol. The new terminal has a roof consisting of numerous pyramids supported on symmetrically arranged “tree supports” for providing shade. The glass shell is discreetly reduced, unpretentious and transparent in contrast. The structure includes vertical stainless steel cables located at a height above 25 m and spaced two meters apart. The glazing, which is fixed to the roof with stainless steel tension rods, is suspended in front of this cable level. Cast stainless steel arms connect the glazing and supporting structure, which consists of vertically arranged cables. Due to the risk of earthquakes and associated movements, the glazing is selectively fixed in place with specially designed glass holders.
