M +R interior architects has designed an extension of the foyer area for the visitors of the Chassé Theatre in the Breda square. Contrasting with the warm and natural colours of the classical cafeteria, which they designed in 2003. The foyer consists of white composite floors, walls and ceilings which form the basis for the new area. The elongated space, which is fully open on the side of the square, can be seen as a continuation of the public area.
The stretched glass bar in the interior emphasises the length of the space. The LED lighting underneath the glass panels are responsible for a subtle blue glow. Behind the bar a large mirror wall with glass shelves supports a multi-coloured spectacle of drinks, bottles and labels. In the area around the glass façade the columns are surrounded by white benches and padded stools arranged similarly to a train compartment. To see and to be seen is the fundamental idea behind the design, users are like lighted objects, attracting passers and visitors of the theater.
