This showroom in the Pacific Design Center is the latest in a series of collaborations between SLH and Samuel and Sons. The family-run company is the premiere provider of high-end passementerie and its showrooms are a manifestation of its supreme attention to detail. Following standards developed for the Chicago and London showrooms, the Los Angeles space is outfitted with carefully calibrated storage and display for 1,000s of distinct products. A distinct material palette has been developed for this new location that provides a clear identity to the space but is restrained enough to allow the products to remain the featured elements. Jet black open-grain oak beams, columns and floor inserts organize the space into discrete sections which feature understated pale oak cabinetry finished in a matte sheen. The cords of the LED pendant fixtures that are centered above each work station form volumes that evoke traditional chandelier designs yet they are abstracted enough to avoid instilling one particular style which was a priority given the broad mix of products within the company’s offerings.
