J - Contemporary Japanese Restaurant

FADD Architects en tant que Architectes.

Located in a city block that is lively during the day and quiet in the evening, the project for J restaurant mixes elements of Japanese and Neapolitan culture to celebrate culinary art. The alternation of materials - essential forms in warm wood and rough concrete walls and the flooring in black marble-concrete, creates a dialogue between East and West, in harmony with the historical character of the building and the context.
From the entrance, the sequence of spaces reinterprets the Japanese house in a western key: the foyer, like the Genkan, at a lower level welcomes guests with the bar, where a mirrored parallelepiped conquers the scene, deforming the perception of space.
A light curtain, inspired by the traditional Japanese Noren curtains, indicates the access to the main room, where the arousing and the kitchen are located, which symbolizes the Butsudan, the spiritual center of the entire house. The modulated lights create different atmospheres, evoking the intimacy of the home environment. Through a small opening, access is allowed to the more intimate area of the restaurant, which evokes the setting of the private garden, Tsuboniwa.
