The winner in the Timber Veneer category of the 2019 Australian Timber Design Awards was Luther College’s Imagination Hub. Luther College is a co-educational independent secondary school located in the outer-eastern suburb of Croydon Hills in Melbourne, Australia.
Designed by Cox Architecture and built by Ireland Brown Construction, the interior of the Imagination Hub features panels of crown cut and quarter cut blackbutt veneer (Eucalyptus pilularis), curved in places to soften the visual effect of the building’s straight lines.
This extraordinary structure is not only a testament to the striking use of timber veneers, but shows the warmth of timber products in general, including a wide expanse of flooring and a feature staircase. Aptly named the Imagination Hub!
