Guest Pavilion in Sa Tuna

This is arquitectura en tant que Architectes.

The assignment consisted in the construction of a guest pavilion as an extension of the main house.

Our first thought was to create a shape clear and simple, a cuboid placed in the middle of the forest, changing as less as possible the surrounding characteristics, as if it had always been there.

The pavilion is defined by an U materialized in corten steel with a slat facade that creates a retreat inside, a place to be and contemplate.

The entrance is in the ground floor. It’s like a kind scultural void inside the ground, you enter on it, then you upstair throught it to the pavilion.

The inside is understood as one space: a living- bedroom space and in one corner there’s the bathroom.

The east, south and west façade are totally glazed, with a solar protection made of corten steel sliding lattice. The north façade has more controlled openings that illuminate the bathroom and the entrance staircase.

Guest Pavilion - Sa Tuna

Secco Sistemi SPA en tant que Integrated systems for doors, windows, shutters and façades..

The pavilion for guests in this villa on Costa Brava is a
parallelepiped in corten steel and glass, suspended on a steep
slope that descends rapidly down to the sea. The protruding
structure is anchored to the ground by a massive base, which
has been dug in the mountain rock, and through which, going
up a floor, one enters the studio-observatory. Projected
towards the Mediterranean, the single room is like an abstract
volume on the ground that is of the maximum transparency
so that it seems to have been emptied from the floor to the
ceiling: in the walls on three sides, to the south, east and west,
the stanchions of the load bearing structure in iron recede
from the edge of the parallelepiped to make room for the
windows – with the essential profiles of the EBE 75 system –
and sliding brise soleil panels. With its chromatic richness
in the facing, doors and windows and sun-breakers, the
corten steel is the only mimetic element compared to the
rugged nature of the area and evokes the brown-reddish
colour of the ground and stones.
