Dorado – built in the 1950’s, this one story home sits on a one acre site. Outdoor private rooms are created using concrete block and red cedar siding, which also creates a strong indoor/outdoor relationship. Red cedar wraps the entire house giving a horizontal lightness, sitting on the landscape. Native desert plants and rocks replace the existing grass in the front yard, while the red cedar fence and cabanas are used near the pool area in the backyard. A new standing seam roof, helps cool the building during the summer, while new floor to ceiling glass doors let the sun in during the winter. Passive heating and cooling systems are employed throughout the home to reduce mechanical energy dependence.
