Apartment @ 11

Moriq en tant que Architectes.

This is an apartment on the 11th floor at one of Hyderabad’s most sought after high rise apartments.
This is a sky villa apartment with commanding views of the cityscape. The area of the apartment is about 3500 Sq ft and it had come with 80% shear walls challenging us to raise our bars and give our best shot.

The clients are a young couple who wanted their freshness to reflect in their spaces.  They wanted a modern look with a touch of fusion.

The existing layout came with 4 bedrooms and dining + lounge and a mini home theatre.  A decently sized deck on the northern side opened up to views of the neighboring tall buildings.    We suggested an open plan concept where the entire lounge and dining/kitchen space would be designed as one space and went a step further and advised dissolving the walls between the master bedroom and the lounge/dining spaces.  This would ensure a seamless physical and visual interactive space throughout.

Of the other three bedrooms, one was made into a cozy home theatre and the 2 bedrooms were retained (for guests and future kids).  Because their lifestyle mostly revolved around very close informal family and friends who would show up at this only when they are not meeting at their family home, and when they come, they become one with the housemates…spreading everywhere…on the bed, on couches, ledges, floor etc.   Keeping this factor in mind, a very casual layout was conceived where everything would be accessible truly without any barrier be it the bed of the master bedroom or the cooking counter of the kitchen.

The look and feel was to be kept stylish and contemporary.  Flooring throughout was wooden except the kitchen and dining area where 12”x 12” multicolored, multi-patterned.  Spanish tiles were used both on flooring and as dado Ceilings were marked with random grooves and flexible rotatable 360” lights were used.  The master bed was conceived as hanging (bespoke) bed and to complement it, 2 hanging chairs were used in the family lounge.  Sliding doors which were detachable from both ends were installed in between the bedroom and lounge and in the deck area.

The kitchen counter and dining table were designed as one piece and the Italian cabinetry was integrated into it.  The dining chairs were more like breakfast stools.  The 50 ft long wall in the western side of the family lounge was cladded with a digital wall paper and the theme was skyscrapers pretty much what one sees when looking out from the deck.  Another highlight was the bespoke chandeliers installation conceived in metal by the lighting designers.

The wall hangings and the clusters were also supposed to be more interactive than decorative like for example, the black board right at the entrance is supposed to be filled up with written messages and thoughts.  The cluster near the dining was a collection of the many souvenirs collected over the years travel.  The black and white picture collage is an ode to the many memories from the early days of the couple’s companionship.

All in all a lot of color was thrown in and the overall look was more FUN rather than anything else.
