This client came to me because they liked the vibrant colorful nature of my work portfolio. The project began as a renovation of their basement into a playroom for grown ups, colorful glossy and bright. It evolved into a whole house renovation, including a new deck. With five bathrooms, five bedrooms, and two kitchens, the house was a mismatch of decades old renovations lacking character but full of unintended forms.
The renovation design unifies the house and shapes the interior with intention. Through carefully designed openings, material choices, and forms, the project aims to unify the spaces while allowing each room to maintain its own special character. Some special design features - custom steel fireplaces and over-sized faceted windowsills in the basement to maximize view and sun exposure, a steam room/bathroom with hidden fixtures, a ground floor kitchen with a portal opening to the stairway to the basement, a backyard deck with copper clad planters to accommodate the client's gardening hobby.
