“A Mare Usque Ad Mare” Arquid proposal for the Ideas Competition for the landscape integration of ENCE’s factory

Location: Pontevedra, Galicia, Spain Programme: Industrial/ Competition Status: conceptualization Planning: 2013(2 months)

This project was a proposal submitted for the Ideas Competition launched by ENCE Company, European leader in eucalyptus pulp production and Spanish leader in forestry-biomass renewable energy production. The Project proposes a reduction of ENCE’s visual impact factory, located near Pontevedra’s estuary in Galicia.

The project seeks to reduce the landscape impact of ENCE’s factory by homogenizing the factory’s external image, enabling the coexistence of the natural environment along with the industrial look of the factory. A new green skin is designed so as to disguise the building’s large presence and become a landscape landmark. To do so, a three-backdrop strategy is set: a metal-green mesh fence, a fast-growing vine perimeter and a new façade. Arquid, in collaboration with its partner IPS-Spain, designed the proposal under the heading “A Mare Usque Ad Mare” for the Ideas Competition for the architectural and landscape integration of ENCE’s factory at Lourizán, Pontevedra, Spain, obtaining the fourth prize among 104 proposals.
