The Monk collection brings together the regional modernist tradition and contemporary design. Originally, the chair and easy chair were designed for the renovation of the architectural icon – the Palace Hotel in Dubrovnik. At the same time, they were homage to the very popular Lupina chair, a classic designed by Niko Kralj. This simple idea is reduced to finding harmony in joining two bended platforms: one for the backrest and the other expanding into the armrest. This results in an upholstered shell mounted on various types of legs – higher ones for the chair and lower ones for the armchair. The name for this collection is a figurative association that simultaneously follows the modernist ethics that inspired the team of designers: it seems as if an old monk dressed in modest cotton clothes decided to sit in an unpretentious wooden chair. The two Monks, a chair and an easy chair, fuse the everyday life filled with work and contemplation. The collection is supplemented with low tables, a dining room table and a bar stool.

Monk easy chair

The easy chair’s shell is composed of two bent pieces of plywood upholstered in fabric, underneath which lies a simple structure of massive wood or metal. The armrest forms part of the seat and the whole shell appears to float independently of its relatively inconspicuous support, thus paying homage to retro furniture and the play between typologies. Monk is available in two variations, as a chair and as an easy chair. Both share the same upper part of the structure, whilst the lower part (legs) is higher and upright in the chair, but lower in the easy chair. Together, the two Monks merge the daily functions of work and contemplation.

Monk barstool

Barstool Monk is a new member of the Monk collection, consisting of chairs, armchair, tables and low tables. Its form has been derived from the metal structure typology that has been added to the collection as an alternative to wooden legs. The seat is made of bent plywood, like in chairs and armchairs, upholstered in fabric or leather. The metal structure of sled base, circles around the back of the seat, forming the back rest.

Monk dining table

Monk collection has been completed with the dining table which thematically adds to the corresponding chair. The elegance of the table made of massive oak has been achieved by narrowing wooden legs towards the bottom, and tabletop towards the edges.

Monk low table

The table top is made of plywood and covered with linoleum, attached to simple wooden legs of the solid wood. Two tables, one of them is lower and enters bellow the higher table, form a complete match for Monk easy chair.
