For a major expansion to a highly creative venture capital firm's existing San Francisco office, Garcia Tamjidi focused on the capture of natural light through the introduction of a series of skylights that supplement the building’s original openings. The space’s folding ceiling carves out a sleek, contemporary space while providing a contrast to the textured brick walls — and an ample surface for sunlight to wash onto.
It also helps to orient the public spaces like the entryway, cafe, and boardroom around deep light wells, creating the sense that even inside, the sun dictates movement. Meanwhile, elements and materials from the existing space have been seamlessly integrated, creating brand continuity as well as illumination-fueled intervention. In the vaulted hallway, a sculpture commissioned from Reuben Margolin produces a kinetic visual anchor.
