Calligaris, founded by Antonio Calligaris in 1923, was born under the sign of passion for wood.
Alessandro, President of the Calligaris group since 1986, is the founder's grandson. He graduated with specialization in surveying and gave up University to start working for the company in the Production Dept.
During the '60s boom, in a market characterized by artisan workshops, he introduced the chair-mending machine marking a real revolution. In the '70s the company started exporting its products and manufacturing tables. In the '90s the company started distributing the Calligaris branded products all over the world. In 2003 the "retail" plan was launched by designing and setting up the first Calligaris branded stores. In 2007 the private equity LCapital fund acquired 40% of the Calligaris group sharing with Alessandro Calligaris the strategic plan of expansion. In May 2014 Alessandro Calligaris came to the decision to buy back the 40% share, making the company even more Italian, not only as a "made in Italy" furniture winning brand, but also as ownership structure.
Calligaris is today a company with five production plants and seven sales offices, growing constantly thanks to a strategy based on three main factors: the internationalization, the strategic orientation towards retail, supporting the markets that are ready and the opening of new point of sales, and, finally, the brand strategy in order to build an internationally recognizable image with an approach focused on the final consumer.
Nevertheless, for Calligaris everything is based on the product, which is founded on some essential elements: width of range and research of functionality.
